memova
Privacy policy
Updated 10/5/2026 In short: memova keeps what it needs for you to learn words, shows no ads, sets no trackers and sells nothing to anyone. Everything of yours can be taken out or deleted in the settings.
Who we are
memova (memova.top) is a non-commercial app for learning words. The person responsible for the data is the app's author; write to support@memova.top or to the support chat in the app.
What we store
- Account: email address, name, password hash (the password itself is not stored), the avatar if you set one, interface language, time zone, plan.
- Learning: words, translations, examples and pictures for them, decks, answers in reviews and training, materials you added to the library, the daily goal and plan, vocabulary test results.
- Lessons: for a teacher — the public card, schedule, students; for everyone — chat messages and invitations. Video lessons go between browsers directly and are not recorded.
- Technical: a session cookie so you do not sign in every time, and server logs (request address, time, IP) kept for a short while — to see what broke.
The Chrome extension
- The extension sends memova only what you picked yourself: a word or phrase with the sentence it stands in, and the address and captions of a video you add to the library. On a page where you picked nothing it reads nothing and sends nothing.
- The account key lives in the browser's local storage on this device and is not synced. It is listed, and can be revoked, in memova's settings → “Apps”.
- Besides memova.top the extension talks only to the sites you are on: it takes the captions the YouTube player already loaded, and for a song without captions looks the lyrics up on Genius on your behalf. When you add a video that has no captions, the extension may record its audio track and send it to memova to build the transcript.
Who we share with
- Mail (email verification, reminders you turned on) is sent by the mail service Resend, which sees the address and the text of the letter.
- Notifications in Telegram and in the browser — only if you turned them on; then Telegram or the browser's push service receives the notification's text.
- Dictionaries and corpora (Wiktionary, Tatoeba, the Georgian National Corpus) receive the word being looked up — not who asked.
- YouTube shows videos in the library the way it does on its own site, under its own rules. memova has no ads, no analytics trackers and no selling of data.
Where it is kept
On a server memova rents from Hetzner, with regular backups. Only the app's author has access to the database.
Your rights
- Take out: settings → “My data” — everything of yours in one JSON file; words also as Anki and CSV.
- Delete: settings → “Delete account” — the account and everything in it goes at once, and from backups as they are refreshed.
- Ask or correct: write to support@memova.top or to the support chat.
Cookies
One session cookie on memova.top. No third-party cookies or trackers.
